Russian folk tale

The Fox and the Crayfish

A very short folk tale about a little crayfish who wins a race by using his wits.

A fox and a crayfish stood together and talked.

A fox meeting a crayfish by a forest stream

The fox said to the crayfish, “Let us have a race.”

“All right, Fox, let us race,” said the crayfish.

They began. As soon as the fox ran, the crayfish caught hold of her tail.

The crayfish holding gently onto the fox’s tail during the race

The fox reached the finish, and the crayfish still held on. Then the fox turned her tail to look behind her.

The crayfish let go and said, “I have been waiting for you here for a long time!”

The End.
