Russian folk tale

Kurochka Ryaba

A very short folk tale for toddlers, with simple repetition, a small sadness, and kind comforting words.

Once upon a time, there lived a grandfather and a grandmother. And they had a hen named Ryaba.

Ryaba laid an egg. It was not an ordinary egg, but a golden one.

Grandfather, Grandmother, and Ryaba the Hen look at a golden egg

Grandfather tapped and tapped the egg, but he could not break it.

Grandmother tapped and tapped the egg, but she could not break it either.

A little mouse ran across the table. She flicked her tail, the egg rolled, fell, and broke.

A little mouse runs across the table beside a rolling golden egg

Grandfather felt sad. Grandmother felt sad.

Grandfather and Grandmother feel sad near the broken golden egg

Then Ryaba the Hen came closer and said gently:

“Do not be sad, Grandfather. Do not be sad, Grandmother. I will lay you a new egg: not golden, but a simple one.”

Ryaba the Hen comforts Grandfather and Grandmother beside a simple white egg

Grandfather smiled. Grandmother smiled. And Ryaba the Hen clucked softly:

“Cluck-cluck-cluck! Everything will be all right.”

The End.
